Welcome to
Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery Park
Individuals
Each of the over 500 people buried here have unique stories and backgrounds, coming from all over the United States and the globe to finally end up here in Seattle. Their varied experiences paints a diverse picture of the variety of circumstance that brought people out west after the Civil War, and how they moved forward after surviving America's bloodiest conflict.
Many of the individuals in this cemetery, particularly the women, immigrants, and people of color, have very little information available about them. This is due to biases built into documentation practices of the time, and leaves a gap in the historical record. Gaps like these are prolific in history, and community collaboration is needed to help fill them. If you have any information on anyone buried in this cemetery you would like to share, please use the contact form linked here to get in touch.

The individuals listed here have been selected based on the availability of information about them, as well as what they represent to the story of Seattle, the Civil War, and this cemetery.
